Dear Friends,
Before we get started, I wanted to remind those of you still using the older Insteon for Hub app on Android: Later this month, Google and Microsoft will be shutting down the systems that the Android version of Insteon for Hub uses to deliver push notifications. Email alerts will continue to function.
Here is an update on Director and a new phone support service. Let’s get right to it...
New Features and Fixes
When you select a keypad in the scene builder the first time, you will see a spinner that will let you know it is working (delay was causing user confusion).
Scene tile now continues to show the “Off” button when resized to 3 or 4 column view.
Director will more quickly update device tiles that transition from disconnected to connected.
Future Release
Device Delete Update - More information will be displayed in Director when deleting a device. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to delete a device depending on how many scenes and number of devices it is connected to. If a device takes a long time to delete, it can appear the App might be frozen. In addition, we will add a Force Delete option for those devices that may be dead or unplugged.
Better error reporting and explanation when you encounter an error executing a scene.
New email notification interface which will streamline adding or editing emails.
New Phone Support Service
Many of you have asked about phone support, so we are launching a phone support service. This service will be $49.95 per call for users with a Hub 2, and subscription. If you are experiencing a specific technical issue with your Insteon network, you can schedule a call with one of our senior support techs. To ensure this service meets our customers’ needs, we are launching in a limited fashion to test the process. To learn more about the service and to purchase please click the button below.
We Need Your Help
We would like to get your feedback on a new support service. In addition to the phone service mentioned above and the Health Check Service, we would like to see if there is an interest in a more comprehensive support program where we offer one-on-one Zoom meetings with clients and show in Director how to build scenes, add/edit/delete devices, adjust schedules, and other Director functions. However, this higher touch service is difficult to configure and price. We realize that many of you will never need this, but for those that do, we would like your feedback. Please click on the following link to provide us some feedback and indicate if you would be willing to attend a group Zoom meeting to discuss this with me:
Tip – Midnight Off and Cleanup
Often it makes sense to have a scene go through your home and turn unnecessary lights off and clean up any LED buttons that might be out of sync due to controlling a device through Director in a multi-way scene. When you turn off a switch in the App that is part of a multi-way scene, the corresponding actor LEDs are not turned off (unless you trigger the scene in Director). This will cause LEDS on the actor switches to be out of sync in your home. Depending on your lifestyle this might make sense to run at 11:00pm, midnight, 2:00am, or whatever time you know everyone will be in bed. This scene includes an “off” for all the devices you want to turn off in the middle of the night. Obviously, if you have some lights such as your front porch light that you want to keep on during the night you would not include this in the scene. Not only may you want to turn off any lights that you don’t want on overnight, but also the keypad buttons corresponding to those lights and any switches that act as actors.
Legacy Cameras
As previously mentioned, we will not be supporting the old Insteon cameras in Director. However, we would like to help our customers find a solution for moving the old Insteon cameras to a new app. For those still using the old Insteon cameras, here’s a video which covers a couple of options we found to be good alternatives to the old Insteon for Hub app: https://youtu.be/lvByOAB2aLw
