Dear Friends,
As I write this letter, we have just released a significant new version of Director. We are excited to keep improving Director to make it a better user experience. However, we are aware there is still much work to do.
New Features
By popular demand: Keypads now show buttons and their associated scenes!
One of our more significant features in this new release is showing the buttons and associated scenes on keypads. This allows a user to trigger a scene assigned to their keypad button through Director. Here are a few examples:
Other Enhancements and Fixes
We have added icons on the device tiles to help quickly identify if that device is a switch, outlet, sensor, etc.
Adjustment to device and scene views to allow up to 8 columns to take advantage of a horizontal display on an Android Tablet for a physically larger user interface
Director now honors the On Level presets for dimmable devices when turning them on from the app.
Improved scene tile design - now showing On and Off controls and resized to match device tiles.
We’ve started collecting a list of tips and tricks for getting the most out of Director. You can check them out by visiting Settings > Support and Feedback > Director Tips.
Fixed an issue where Director was not correctly setting On Level and Fade Speed for 6 and 8 button dimmer keypads.
Future Release
Here are a couple of things we are working on for a release in the near future:
When you select a keypad in the scene builder the first time you will see a spinner that will let you know it is working. The second time the keypad should come up much faster. The delay in selecting the keypad was causing user confusion.
Better error reporting and explanation when you encounter an error executing a scene.
Tip – Texts & Multiple Email Notifications
When a light goes on or a motion sensor triggers you can get a banner on your phone and/or an email. Since all of the major cell carriers have an email setup for your phone text, you can also get a text (SMS) message. On the rooms view, tap on the device card, and enter the full device view, next tap the gear icon. Tap Notifications and enable email notifications. In the email field type the email. If you want to get a text add your 10-digit cell phone number per the following:
AT&T: 10digitphonenumber@txt.att.net
Verizon: 10digitphonenumber@vtext.com
T-Mobile: 10digitphonenumber@tmomail.net
For instance, if you put an open/close sensor in your mailbox and want to get a notification via text and email when your mailbox is open you would type the following:
bobsmith@gmail,com,71499922222@txt.att.net
Then type Save. An alert approval message will be sent to the phone number provided as a text. For more detail on the texting portion of this click on https://www.insteon.com/support-knowledgebase/2015/4/8/send-alerts-via-sms-using-email-on-your-mobile-phone
Legacy Cameras
As previously mentioned, we will not be supporting the old Insteon cameras in Director. However, we would like to help our customers find a solution for moving the old Insteon cameras to a new app. For those still using the old Insteon cameras, here’s a video which covers a couple of options we found are good alternatives to the old Insteon for Hub app: https://youtu.be/lvByOAB2aLw
