The Insteon Director app has a new feature that allows you to see when a sensor has failed to check-in as expected. When this happens, the tile changes color and status says: No response.
For those interested in the geeky details behind how we determine a device is offline, click here. Otherwise, read on about how to resolve the issue.
Reasons why you will see this message:
Your sensor battery is dead
Your sensor is out of range
Your sensor has malfunctioned
To troubleshoot this issue, please try the following:
Confirm Sensor and Hub are Communicating
Without moving the sensor from its current location, tap the set button on the sensor or activate the sensor.
If the sensor doesn’t blink:
Replace the battery and try again
If after replacing the battery, the sensor still doesn’t blink, the sensor has failed and must be replaced
If the sensor’s LED indicator blinks at all, you should have received an in-app alert (or push/email notification, if enabled) and the “No response” message in the app should change to display the current known state of the sensor.
If no alert was received, confirm alerts are enabled for the sensor. See how to do this at the end of this article.
If you still did not receive an alert, move the sensor closer to the hub and try again. If the alert is received, the sensor is functional but out of range from the hub. This could be a result of
Hub placement has been changed – possible solution: try moving the hub back to its original location or some location that is closer to the sensor.
Another Insteon device that had been repeating the signal from the sensor has been removed or has failed – possible solution: try installing another dual-band Insteon device in its place to help the sensor reach the hub
If you still did not receive an alert, replace the battery in the sensor. If you still do not receive an alert, delete and re-add the sensor.
Confirm Alerts are Enabled
In the Insteon Director app, tap on the sensor tile and then tap on the gear in the upper right corner
Tap Notifications
Ensure that the switch for the desired notification is enabled
If email notification is on, be sure to enter the desired email address. Note: you may need to approve email alerts – check your inbox for a verification notice.
Why does the app show sensor activity but the device tile is yellow?
If after clearing the “no response” your app is detecting sensor activity via set button press or sensor activation but the device tile in the app returns to yellow state (no response), please delete your sensor from the app and re-add.
