Black = Line
White = Neutral
Green = Ground
IMPORTANT: We’ve discovered an issue where some i3 devices may have shipped with a configuration issue that impacts performance and reliability. To ensure best performance and reliability, factory reset before using.
Tools needed
Phillips screwdriver
Flathead screwdriver
Voltage detector
Wire cutter / stripper
Step 1. Turn off power
Remove power to your outlet by turning off the appropriate circuit breaker at the electrical service panel.
Confirm power is turned off with a voltage detector or by simply plugging in a lamp or appliance.
Step 2. Remove old outlet
Unscrew and pull the old outlet away from the wall. You should see black (line), white (neutral), and bare copper (ground) wires. If you have two black wires, note the one that is connected to the silver screw terminal. That will be the neutral wire.
Disconnect the wires and make sure to straighten the ends and have about 1/2” length of exposed wire.
Step 3. Turn on power
Turn on power at the circuit breaker and use a voltage detector to identify which exposed wire has voltage. This will be considered the line wire. The other wire will be your neutral wire.
Step 4. Turn off power & connect wires
Turn off power at the circuit breaker. Connect the Insteon Outlet wires to the identified wires in the junction box.
Verify that the wire nuts are secure and that no exposed copper wire is visible except for the bare ground wire.
Step 5. Install & turn on power
Install the Insteon Outlet into the junction box. Turn on power at the circuit breaker.
Step 6. Test
Plug in a lamp or small appliance and tap the set buttons to turn on/off.
Step 7. Link to Insteon Hub 2
In the Insteon Director app, follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Dial to the Insteon Hub 2.
Insteon Hub 2 enables control from your smart phone and voice assistant. Visit Insteon.com/hub to learn more.
Tamper resistant
Tamper resistant receptacles keep your young ones safe safe by only allowing insertion of lamp and appliance plugs into the sockets.
