Are you installing a single switch?
This guide covers a single switch controlling a fixture. If you are installing as part of a multi-way circuit (2 or more switches controlling the same fixtures) check out this article: Wiring with Multiple Switches Controlling the Same Fixture
Step 1. Turn off power
Remove power to your switch by turning off the appropriate circuit breaker at the electrical service panel. Confirm power is turned off by flipping the existing wall switch on and off.
Step 2. Remove old switch
Unscrew and pull the old switch away from the wall. Look in the wall box for neutral wires. These are usually 2 or more white wires connected with a wire nut. If you do not have these or are unsure, stop and contact support.
Disconnect the wires and make sure to straighten the ends and have about 1/2” length of exposed wire.
Step 3. Turn on power
Turn on power at the circuit breaker and use a voltage detector to identify which exposed wire has voltage. This will be considered the line wire. The wire without voltage will be the load wire.
Step 4. Turn off power & connect wires
Turn off power at the circuit breaker. Connect the Keypad wires to the identified wires in the junction box.
Verify that the wire nuts are secure and that no exposed copper wire is visible except for the bare ground wire.
Step 5. Install and turn on power
Install the Keypad into the junction box with the status LEDs on the right. Turn on power at the circuit breaker.
Step 6. Test
Tap the top button to turn on and off the connected light. Press and hold to adjust brightness.
If the fixture is not dimmable change the Keypad to on/off mode (see the end of this guide).
Step 7. Link to Insteon Hub 2
In the Insteon Director app, follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Keypad to the Insteon Hub 2.
Insteon Hub 2 enables control from your smart phone and voice assistant. Visit Insteon.com/hub to learn more.
Not using a hub or software? No problem! Insteon devices can be programmed using your finger. Check out our manual programming instructions.
Enjoy your new Keypad
Adjust settings, set schedules and create scenes for your Keypad using the Insteon Hub 2 and Director app.
Manually change between dimmer and on/off modes
